Question: If somebody joins the Jamaat late, after a Raka?at r two, but ends the Salaat along with the Imam, what should that person do? ............................................................................
Answer: A Masbuq (i.e. a person who joins the Jamaat late) should complete the missed Raka’at after the Imam ends the Salaat. If such a person ends the Salaat along with the Imam, but remembers it and does not talk or do anything that would invalidate the Salaat, then he can offer the rest of the Salaat along with Sajda Sahw (prostration on erring in Salaat). Translation: If the Masbuq ends the Salaat along with the Iman, with full knowledge of the number of Raka’at, then his Salaat is invalidated as he has done it willfully. If he ends the Salaat with the Imam by mistake, then his Salaat will not be invalidated as it is a mistake. Thus, by ending the Salaat by mistake, he is not out of the Salaat. If he ends the Salaat along with the Imam, then he should offer Sajda Sahw as it is a mistake in his personal Salaat. He should offer Sajda Sahw after making up his missed Raka’at.
