f:672 -    Wuzu or bath with contact lenses
Country : India,
Name : submittername
Question:     Some people use lenses instead of glasses. The lenses are not removed while performing ablution or having a bath. Is wuzu while wearing contact lenses permitted?

............................................................................
Answer:     According to the Shariah, the inner part of the eye is considered to be an internal organ.  Washing them involves too much effort, so washing them during Wuzu or Ghusl (bath) is not Wajib.  Allah Ta'ala says in Verse 6 of Surah Maidah about Taharah (cleanliness and purity):

Allah does not want to make things anyway hard for you, but He wants to purify you, and complete the bestowal of His Favour upon you so that you may become grateful.  Surah Maida (5:6)

Lenses are actually concave glasses.  In Wuzu, washing the inner part of the eye is not Wajib and as they are placed next to the inner part of the eye, so, according to the Shariah, there is no problem in performing Wuzu or having bath while wearing contact lenses.

As given in Fatawa A'alamgiri, Vol. 1, Kitab Ut Taharah, Pg. No. 4 and Vol. 1 Pg. No. 13:

Translation:  It is neither Wajib nor a Sunnah to wash the inner part of the eye.

And Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala) knows best.
