Question:     What is the Islamic ruling about photographs?

Answer:     There is a difference of opinion among the scholars about photograph.  Some hold the opinion that as the Hadith have warnings about photos, taking photographs is not allowed.  Others, have the opinion that the "photo" mentioned in the Hadith refers to making statues and/or paintings.  The modern photograph is a kind of reflection of the person.  Thus, it is permissible.

There is no problem in taking photographs to propagate Islam, to inform others of Islamic activities and for other good causes.  There are many benefits of it, which don’t need any explanation.
