f:515 -    Drinking of wine out of need
Country : ,
Name : submittername
Question:     Can we drink wine out of need?
............................................................................
Answer:     Need means that someone is thirsty and there is no water or some permissible drink to have.  The thirst is such that if the person does not drink something, he (or she) will die.  In this kind of situation, if one knows that on drinking wine, life will be saved, then that person is allowed to drink only as much wine as necessary to save one’s life.

In the same way, if a person is dying of hunger, there are no permissible foodstuffs to eat.  There is a chance by eating what is forbidden, that person’s life will be saved,
then that person will not be taken to account for eating what is forbidden.

And Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala) knows best.
