Question: I have heard that the beard should be visible from a distance of 40 steps. Is this correct? What are the minimum and maximum limits of the beard? Is beard only a Sunnah or Wajib? ............................................................................
Answer: Sporting a beard is a Sunnah of the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam). It is not permissible to have it less than 1 fistful regardless of whether it is visible from a distance of 40 steps or not. Its limits are that it should be 1 fistful.
