f:483 -    The couplets of Hadhrat Abdullah bin Abbas (May Allah be well pleased with him)
Country : Hyderabad, India,
Name : Azhar Khan
Question:     I want to know in light of the Hadith whether Naat is permissible or not?
............................................................................
Answer:     It is given Mustadrak 'Alas Sahihain of Imam Hakim, Mojam Kabeer of Imam Tabarani and in Majma 'Uz Zawaaid of Imam Haithami that on return from the Battle of Tabuk, Hadhrat Abbas (May Allah be well pleased with him) sought the Holy Prophet's (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) permission to praise Him.  The Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) blessed him and granted him His permission.  Then Hadhrat Abbas (May Allah be well pleased with him) recited some couplets.

The Hadith given in Mustadrak 'Alas Sahihain of Imam Hakim is being presented here:

Translation:  Hadhrat Khuzaim Bin Haritha (May Allah be well pleased with him) says: I migrated to the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) on His return from Tabuk and embraced Islam.  I heard Hadhrat Abbas bin Abdul Muttalib (May Allah be well pleased with him) request the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam): O Prophet of Allah (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam), I want to praise and extol you.  The Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) said: You praise me, may Allah Most High beautify your face.  Hadhrat Abbas (May Allah be well pleased with him) recited some couplets.  Among them some are:

When your blessed birth happened, the earth and the sky became illuminated and the very horizons became radiant with His radiance  (Mojam Kabeer, Hadith No: 4057; Mustadrak 'Alas Sahihain, Hadith No: 5426; Majmu Az Zawaaid, Vol. 8, Pg. No. 217).

In Mojam Kabeer and Majma 'Uz Zawaaid, this couplet is mentioned:

Translation:  In this very radiance, we are covering the paths of guidance.

There is some slight change of wording in these 2 canons of Hadith.  Apart from this also, there is mention in the Hadith books of other Companions reciting Naat.

And Allah Most High knows best.
