f:438 -    What to recite on seeing the crescent of Ramadhan

Question:     We see the moon of Ramadhan with much fervor, I want to ask you whether it is mentioned in the Hadith that a Dua should be recited on seeing the moon?

Answer:     The Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) has described the etiquette for all walks and occasions of life.  There is a Hadith in Jame’ Tirmidhi that the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) would recite the following Dua on seeing the moon of Ramadhan:

Transliteration:  Allahumma Ahillahu ‘Alaina Bil Yumni Wal Imani Wal Islami Rabee Wa Rabbukallah.

Translation: O Allah! Let this moon emerge on us with Barakah (blessings), Iman (faith), safety and Islam.  O moon! Your and my Lord is Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala).
