f:425 -    Is working as commission agent permissible?
Country : Nizamabad, India,
Name : Syed Jameel Ahmed
Question:     What do the scholars say about this that a Japanese company has made a certain bed/mattress which is very helpful for BP, heart patients, etc.  This bed is a bit expensive, but if the person who buys it makes someone else buy it, the company pays a certain amount of commission.  For referring one person, 10%, 3 people almost 32% and more than that 50%.  As per the Shariah, is accepting the money like this permissible?

............................................................................
Answer:     People who acts links/contacts between the buyer and seller are called “Samsar” (commission agent) in the terminology of the Shariah.

Giving this person remuneration as per his (or her) efforts is permissible as per the Shariah.

As given in Fatawa A’alamgiri, Vol. 4, Pg. No. 441.

Thus, in the present situation, accepting payment on referring others to buy the bed, which is beneficial from a medical point of view, is permissible.

And Allah Most High knows best.
