f:374 -    Planting trees in the Masjid
Country : Kolkata, India,
Name : Muhammad Ahmed
Question:     Planting of trees is undertaken at various places.  This is especially done in schools, colleges and public places.  It is also being done in Masjid.  Can this be done in the courtyard of the Masjid or is this not allowed?

............................................................................
Answer:     If planting of trees is done in the mosque with the intention of benefiting the worshippers, then there is no problem in it, provided it does not hinder or obstruct the rows of worshippers.

If this planting of trees benefits one particular person (with trees, flowers, fruits, etc.) or if it separates the rows of worshippers or if they are planted in such a manner that they create a similarity between the mosque and the church, then it is not allowed.  As mentioned in Fatawa A’alamgiri, Vol. 5, Pg. No. 321.
