Question: Please give me the reference in the Hadith of offering Witr Salaat as it is offered in the Hanafi school of Fiqh. I would be really obliged to you. ............................................................................
Answer: There are 3 Raka’at in Salaat Ul Witr. It is clearly established by the Hadith of Sihah Sittah (the 6 most rigorously-authenticated books of Hadith) and other canons of Hadith. The routine of the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) about Salaat Ul Witr is mentioned in Jame’ Tirmidhi: Translation: It is narrated on the authority of Hadhrat 'Ali (May Allah be well pleased with him), he said that: The Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) would perform 3 Raka’at of Witr. (Jame’ Tirmidhi, Vol. 1, Pg No: 106) There is a Hadith in Sunan Dara Qutni: Translation: It is narrated on the authority of Hadhrat 'Abdullah bin Mas’ud (May Allah be well pleased with him) that the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) said: The Salaat offered in the night (after Salaat Ul Isha), Witr, has 3 Raka’at, the way the Witr of the day, Maghrib has 3 Raka’at.
