f:333 -    What to do if father curses for silly things
Country : Jeddah,
Name : Saleem
Question:     If the father curses the children even for small delay in things, then will the curse have effect?  The father himself does not remember these things and shrugs them off.

............................................................................
Answer:     Parents are a very great bounty of Allah Most High.  Being grateful to them, obeying them and following their commandments is necessary and compulsory.  We should try to avoid hurting them as much as we can, as the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) said: The prayer of a father against the children is not rejected.  As given in the Hadith:

Translation:  It has been narrated on the authority of Hadhrat Abu Hurairah (May Allah be well pleased with him), he said that the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) said: There are 3 supplications prayers about whom there is no doubt of acceptance.  The supplication of someone who is oppressed, the supplication of a traveler and the supplication of a father against his children.  (Jame’ Tirmidhi, Hadith No: 1828)

If a person has an angry nature and the scolding etc. is only an expression of that anger, then Allah-willing, this will not be included in this.

Your father curses you in anger and out of it, he shrugs it off.  Then it means, this is not a curse per se, but only an expression of his anger.  However, as a son, it is your responsibility to respect your father and obey him.

Parents should also take care that when the children make mistakes, they should advise them and should not resort to cursing them.  Instead, they should pray for their guidance.

And Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala) knows best.
