f:319 -    Salaam to a non-Muslim
Country : India,
Name : Abdul Jaleel
Question:     Assalam Alaikum Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakutuhu, Mufti Sahab.  I have some questions for you.

1.  Can we greet a non-Muslim with ?Salaam??  in Salaam we are praying for their betterment.

2.  Are Muslims only those who have Iman in the Ummah of the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) or are the believers or other Prophets also Muslims?

3.  Will only Muslims enter Jannah or other non-Muslims will also enter?

............................................................................
Answer:     Walaikum Assalam Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakutuhu,

1.  For any non-Muslim the words “As Salaamu Ala Manittaba’il Huda" or simply “Aadaab” can be said.  If any non-Muslim greets us with Salaam, then we should say “Wa Alaika,” as per the Hadith given in Zujajatul Masabeeh, Vol. 4, Pg No. 11 on the authority of Sahih Bukhari, Hadith No: 6258 and Sunan Ibn Majah, Hadith No: 5780.

2.  Those who have believed in the past nations are also Muslim.

3.  Only Muslims will enter paradise.  No non-Muslim will enter paradise.

And Allah Most High knows best.
