f:298 -    Telling lies to benefit somebody
Country : Not mentioned,
Name : Syed
Question:     If a person receives some benefit or receives guidance through a lie, then is lying allowed?  What about a false oath to benefit somebody?

............................................................................
Answer:     Lying is a major sin and there are severe warnings for liars.  However, lying is allowed in some situations.  For the safety of life and property and to remove enmity between 2 persons, lying is allowed, so that the hearts are cleared of enmity and a spirit brotherhood is maintained, as given in the Hadith:

Translation:  The Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) said: The person who describes something against fact to strike out a compromise between 2 people, has not lied.

However, even if a false oath might stop a big disturbance, it is not allowed, as there is no Hadith supporting this.

Lying to guide someone out of the darkness of disbelief into Islam is not permissible.  If the true words of Allah and the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) do not affect somebody, then how can a lie guide that person?

And Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala) knows best.
