Question:     Assalamalaikum wa Rahmatullah Mufti Sahab! Is it correct to gain employment through cheating?

Answer:     Lies and cheating is in any case Haraam, be it any other situation or when searching for employment.  The Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) said:

Translation:  Whoever cheats is not from us.  (Sahih Muslim, Hadith No: 146)

Gaining employment through cheating or wrong means is impermissible and Haraam (forbidden), but the money earned from it is Halal.

The way if land is gotten through cheating and Salaat is offered on it, then the Salaat is valid but the sin of getting the land through wrong means still remains, in the same way employment gotten through cheating is wrong, but the money earned through it is Halal.

And Allah Most High knows best.
