f:155 -    Is not sending greetings and salutations on the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) a sin?
Country : India,
Name : Faheem
Question:     Is not reciting Durood and Salaam a sin?  What is the punishment if somebody says that reciting Durood and Salaam is a sin?

............................................................................
Answer:     Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala) has Himself ordered us to present our Durood and Salaam (Salutations and blessings) to the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam).  As given in Surah Ahzaab, verse no -56.

The Jurists (Fuqaha) have clarified that reciting Durood once in the whole lifetime is obligatory (Fardh) and reciting it in the assembly where the blessed name of the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) is mentioned is Compulsory (Wajib).  Apart from this, reciting Durood and Salaam on other occasions, as per convenience, is Mustahab (Commendable).  There is much excellence in reciting Durood and Salaam and there are innumerable rewards and benefits in reciting it.

Imam Tabarani (May Allah shower His Mercy on him) has mentioned a Hadith in Mo’jam Ausat in which the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) says: Aameen 3 times.  One among them is about Ramadhan and the second is about the parents.  Only the third is being mentioned here:

Translation:  Jibreel (May peace be upon him) came to the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) and said: May Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala) ruin that person who does not recite Durood when Your blessed name is mentioned before him (or her) and the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) said: Aameen. (Mo’jam Ausat, Hadith No: 8364)

And Allah know best.
