f:1239 -    Growing beard without intention of following Sunnah

Question:     As-Salaam Valaikum !! I'm of 23 years old. Recently one month back i started to grow my beard(without any niyyat) without shaving it off(just trimming). But due to this beard I'm losing many job opportunities. Can I shave my beard now or not (with niyyat or without) !?

Answer:     Growing a beard is a Sunnah.  Intention is not necessary for this.  If you aren’t getting any job due to your beard, then try somewhere else.  Allah-willing through the blessings of Sunnah, you will get a job.  If you aren’t getting a job then try some other means of earning (lawful) livelihood.  Allah Most High is the One who grants sustenance.  When human beings lead lives putting their trust in Allah Most High, He grants them sustenance from unseen sources.  Allah Most High says in the Holy Quran:

Truly, Allah alone is the Sustainer of everyone.  Surah Dhaariyaat (51:58)

The Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) said:  

Translation: It is narrated on the authority of Hadhrat 'Umar bin Khattab (May Allah be well pleased with him), he says:  The Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) said:  If you have absolute trust in Allah Most High, as it ought to be done, then Allah Most High will grant you sustenance the way He grants sustenance to birds – every morning they fly from their nests with empty stomachs and come back at dusk with full stomachs.  (Jame’ Tirmidhi, Hadith No. 2515)
