f:1194 -    Did the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) ever have chicken?

Question:     Mufti Sahab, your answers are very informative.  I have a question.  In our society, chicken is consumed abundantly.  I know that chicken is Halaal but I want to know whether our Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) had eaten chicken.  Please answer this question.

Answer:     This is established by the Hadith that the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) did have chicken.  Hadith in this regard are present in Jame’ Tirmidhi, Shamaail Tirmidhi, Sunan Baihaqui and M’ojam Kabeer and M’ojam Ausat of Imam Tabarani.

Please see this Hadith from Jame’ Tirmidhi:

Translation: It is narrated on the authority of Hadhrat Abu Moosa Ash’ari (May Allah be well pleased with him), he says:  We have seen the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) have chicken meat. (Jame’ Tirmidhi, Hadith No. 1943)
