f:1180 -    What to do if mosque far from house

Question:     When we go to foreign countries like UK or US, there the mosque is very far.  In those cases, can we offer Salaat in the house?  Also, what should we do to save ourselves from sin in those countries?

Answer:     The valid reasons for leaving congregation described by the Jurists in light of the Hadith and the Traditions of the Companions do not include distance to the mosque.  If mosque is far, then each person will get reward for going to the mosque as per the distance of the Masjid to the house.  

There is a Hadith in Jame’ Tirmidhi:

Translation: It is narrated on the authority of Hadhrat Abu Hurairah (May Allah be well pleased with him) that the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) said: Shall I not tell you those deeds for which Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala) wipes out the sins and elevates your stations?  The Companions said: Why not! O Prophet of Allah! (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam).  The Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) said: To perform a complete ablution in spite of difficulties, to take more foot steps towards the mosque and waiting for the next Salaat after a Salaat.  These are the deeds which have the reward of guarding the boundaries of the country.

Even if the mosque is far, we should go to the mosque.  The more steps we take towards the mosque, the more reward we get.

Now your second question.  After finishing your necessary work, spend your necessary time in acquiring the knowledge of Islam, recite the Holy Quran and send Durud on the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam).
