f:1153 -    What if the Imam forgets the Holy Quran?
Country : India,
Name : Inayath
Question:     If the Imam misses a verse while reciting the Holy Quran, can a person who is following the Imam (Muqtadi) correct the Imam, in Fardh (Obligatory) Salaat? What if the Muqtadi tries to correct, and the Imam does not accept it? Will this terminate the Salaat.
............................................................................
Answer:     A person offering Salaat in the lead of an Imam can correct the Imam in all those Salaat in which the Holy Quran is recited audibly. Because of such correction, Salaat of  the Imam or the muqtadi will not be invalidated (Fasid). However, the follower should not be hasty in correcting the Imam. It might be that the Imam would remember what he had forgotten

In such a case, the follower will be considered as someone who needlessly recites the Holy Quran even while following the Imam. It is Undesirable (Makruh) to be hasty in correcting the Imam, as given in Fatawa A’alamgiri Vol. 1, Kitab Us Salaat.

And Allah The Merciful and The Beneficent knows best.
