Question: Mufti Sahab, I heard the incident of Hadhrat Abbas (May Allah SWT be well pleased with him) becoming a Muslim, he said that I saw the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) in childhood. From His cradle wherever He would gesture the moon would dip on that side. This became my reason for becoming a Muslim. How far is this true? ............................................................................
Answer: In Khasais Kubra, Imam Suyuti has written on the authority of Baihaqui, Sabuni, Khateeb and Ibn Asaker: Translation: Hadhrat Abbas bin Abdul Muttalib (May Allah SWT be well pleased with him) said: O Prophet of Allah! A sign of Your Prophethood became the reason of my embracing Islam. I saw the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) in His cradle. He (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) would talk with the moon and the moon would dip wherever He (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) would gesture. The Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) said: I would talk to it and it would to Me. The moon would try to amuse Me from crying and when it would prostrate at the 'Arsh, I would hear the sound of its falling. (Dalail Un Nabuwwah Lil Baihaqi, Hadith No: 374; Khasais Kubra, Vol. 1, Pg.
