Sins and their effect on the heart

Sins and their effect on the heart

[The beautiful words of Hadhrat Muhaddith-e-Deccan (May Allah shower His Mercy on him) about sins and repentance (Tauba) are being presented.  May Allah Most High grant His forgiveness to us all.]

The relation of the heart with the other parts of the body is that whatever they do, it affects the heart.  Good deeds spread radiance and bad deeds spread darkness in the heart.  The relation of the heart with Allah Most High is that in this heart, the divine vision of Allah Most High occurs.

Sins are the veil between Allah Most High and the heart, which spoil the heart.  The way a dusty mirror does not show the reflection of the face, in the same way, a sinful heart, in this world and the next, is bereft of divine vision.

Rising prices, deadly diseases, lack of peace, rain out of season and out of moderation, in short, all difficulties are only because of sins.

Sins are nothing but harm.  This harm is realized at the time of death.  Who can predict death?  Who knows this moment is our last moment.  Many people died sitting, while walking, they fell and died.  In which fantasy are you?  Repent for your sins, repent (perform Tauba) and keep making efforts that sins are not repeated again.  If you end up sinning, then repent again.

There is hope for forgiveness of those sins, which are done by mistake or by desires of the base self (Nafs), like the sin of Hadhrat Adam (May peace be upon him) and those sins, which are done out of pride and self-conceit, there is no hope of forgiveness for them, like the sin of Satan, which was because of pride and ego.

If at any time you commit a sin because of being overwhelmed by desires and anger, then at that time keep in mind that what you have done is wrong.  Through this, the heart feels a kind of pinch.  It is as if, in hot water, a little cold water is mixed.  Because of this, the water will not become cold as such but its original hotness will not be there either.

Through sins, the heart is darkened.  Out of our idiocy, we have taken this darkness and its harm as pleasure.  But remember!  This pleasure is like the pleasure gotten out of scratching and afterwards, it smarts.  In the same way, now you are taking pleasure out of sins, but tomorrow this very pleasure will make you shed rivers of tears.

To set a house on fire, a small spark and a huge flame, both are the same.  In the same way, to set the edifice of faith (Imaan) on fire, small sins and great sins are both the same.  For this reason, to save yourself from the deceit of Satan, save yourself from the minor sins also along with the major sins.

Tears wipe out sins

The proper time to shed tears is at the time of sins.  There is no hardship like sins.  How much ever you want to cry, cry at the time of sins.  Hadhrat Adam (May peace be upon him) left food and drink for 40 days for one sin.  He kept crying for 200 years and out of shame did not raise his head.  Our state is that even after hundreds of sins, we don’t cry even for a moment.

Hadith:  The Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) said: O People! Cry out of the fear of Allah Most High.  If you can’t cry, then try to cry, make your heart cry and make a face as if you are crying, so that tomorrow on the Day of Judgment you don’t have to cry.  Those who are in hell will cry so much that such streams will form from their tears in which boats can travel.  When the tears will dry up, then blood will flow from the eyes and the eyes will become wounded.

O you who insist on sins!  Until when will this persistence be?  Don’t wait for the fire of hell.  Purify your hearts with the fire of repentance.  The way you committed sins until now, keep performing good deeds from now on.  The way the sins cast a gloom on the heart, in the same way, with good deeds will spread a certain radiance.  If by chance, you get carried away by the deceit of the devils among the djinns or men and commit a sin, then repent immediately and supplicate with tears and crying.

Sins create despair

At the time when someone commits a sin, then a veil is created and that person is distanced from Allah Most High and he feels as if I have been flung away from Allah’s Mercy.  When this feeling intensifies, then despair sets in and there is no courage left for remembrance of Allah Most High, repentance and supplication.  The Self (Nafs) says: You are not fit for taking the name of the Lord Almighty.  Now there will be no mercy for you!  This is all waste!  Thus, the heart stops from the remembrance of Allah Most High.  This is the state of those who have the fear of Allah Most High in their hearts. As far as those who are heedless are concerned, they don’t even care about this.

The remedy for sins is repentance

Hadith:  It is mentioned in the Hadith that when a person commits a sin, then a black dot appears on the heart and if more sins are committed, then this dot spreads.  In the same way, this dot keeps spreading further and the heart becomes black.  Alas! We have drunk the poison of sins!  Instead of the antidote, we keep drinking this poison only.  Whatever punishment comes on us is less.  The Great Physician of Madina has granted us a very light medicine, which has the effect of the antidote.  The antidote to a 1000 sins is this small remedy.  The remedy for all sins is repentance.  All your sins will be washed away in a moment.

Hadith:  Allah Most High does not like any other voice as the voice of the sinner, when he (or she) repents, saying: My Lord, my Lord!  Then Allah Most High says: Yes My slave!  Angels, you be witness! I have forgiven the sins of this slave who is repenting.

For every Muslim, every day there is a new page (of the record of deeds).  When it is wrapped up in such a state that it has no repentance in it, then it is black and darkened.  When repentance is there in it, it is all radiance (Noor), through which light flashes.

The Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) says: That person is lucky whose record of deeds is full of repentance.

Tomorrow, the record of deeds will be opened and if you want to be happy, then write repentance profusely in your record of deeds (i.e. perform it a lot).
