f:32 -    Forgetting Tashahud behind Imam
Country : India,
Name : Muhammad Imtiyaz Ali

Question:
If the person who is offering Salaat behind the Imam (Muqtadi) forgets to recite the Tashahud in the Salaat, then is his Salaat affected in any way and should he offer "sajda sahw" (prostration of forgetfulness)?

.....................................................................................................................................
Answer:
The Salaat of the Muqtadi depends on the Salaat of the Imam and Imam is responsible for the Salaat of the follower. There is Hadith in Jame Tirmizi on the authority of Hadhrat Abu Hurairah (May Allah SWT be well pleased with him) that the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) said, “The Imam is responsible (for the Salaat of the followers).”

If the follower makes a mistake, the Sajdah Sahw is not compulsory on him as given in Fatawa Alamgiri, Vol I Pg no. 831.

So, if the follower forgets to recite the Tashahud, the Salaat is not affected in any way and there is no Sajdah Sahw.

And Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala) knows best.
