AR 786 : When should Durood be recited?

When should Durood be recited?

Some Hadith are being mentioned here in which the times when Durood is to be recited have been mentioned.  One among them is when gaining purity (Tahaarah).

Translation: It is narrated on the authority of Hadhrat ‘Abdullah bin Mas’ud and Hadhrat Sahl bin Sa’ad (May Allah be well pleased with them) that the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) said:  The person who does not recite Durood, his (or her) ablution is not complete.  This is related by Tabarani in Mo’jam Kabeer.

There are other Hadith also in this regard.

Durood should be recited when offering Salaat as well.  Thus, Imam Fakihani (May Allah shower His Mercy on him) relates in Al Fajr Ul Muneer Fis Salaatil Basheer Wan Nadheer:

Translation: That person’s Salaat is not valid who does not recite Durood on the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam).

There are other Hadith in this regard as well, which will be related as and when necessary.

Durood should also be recited after Adhaan, the call to Salaat, as related by Ibn Taimiya in Muntaqil Akhbaar:

Translation: It is narrated on the authority of Hadhrat ‘Abdullah bin ‘Umar (May Allah be well pleased with them) that the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) said:  When you heard the Mueddhin saying the Adhaan, repeat what he says, then recite Durood on Me, because if a person recites Durood once on Me, Allah Most High sends 10 Durood on him (or her).

This Hadith has been related by all the Sihah except Sahih Bukhari and Sunan Ibn Majah.

Durood should also be recited at the time of supplication.  Thus, it is rigorously established that the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) included Durood in the supplication of Qunoot.
