f:880 -    Fidya of fasts
Country : Hyderabad, India,
Name : Inayath Naqshbandi
Question:     Who can give Fidya of fasts?
............................................................................
Answer:     If somebody is so ill that that person cannot fast or if that person fasts, the illness would increase or if the person is of a very great age (Shaykh Fani in the terminology of the Shariah), then because of these valid reasons, fasts are cancelled for them and Fiday (penalty) becomes Wajib on them, as Allah Most High says in Surah Baqarah-184.

In Fidya, a needy person (Miskeen) has to be given 1/2 Sa'a of wheat, which amounts to 1.25 kg in present system of measurements or its equivalent price or if something other than wheat is being given, then it should be 1 Sa'a.

And Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala) knows best.
