f:1142 -    Seeing calendar while offering Salaat
Country : Hyderabad,
Name : Salman
Question:     While we are offering Salaat, sometimes we end up seeing something else like calendar.  What would be the Shariah ruling for this?
............................................................................
Answer:     Seeing a calendar, whether voluntarily or involuntarily while offering Salaat is against the propriety of Salaat. And negates concentration and attention.

While offering Salaat, if the eyes rest on some written matter, then the jurists have described 3 cases.

It is among the manners of Salaat that while standing, the eyes should rest on the place of prostration, in Ruku, the eyes should rest on the back of both the feet, in prostration, on the nose and in the sitting position (Qaidah), on the lap. In the same way, while ending the Salaat, the eyes should first rest on the right shoulder and then on the left shoulder. Fatawa A'alamgiri, Vol 1, Kitaab us Salaat.

And Allah The Mighty and The Majestic knows best.
