f:270 -    Offering Salaat during the sermon of the Friday Salaat
Country : India,
Name : Muhammad Muneer
Question:     During the Khutba of Friday, talking is prohibited, but offering Salaat is a worship.  So when we are late and want to offer Sunnah, can we do so during the Khutba?

............................................................................
Answer:     When the sermonizer (Khateeb) stands up with the intention of ascending the pulpit and giving the sermon, from then on Dhikr, Tasbeeh (remembering and praising Allah Most High) and offering Sunnah and Supererogatory Salaat is also prohibited.  However, a person who always offers Salaat punctually (Sahib Tarteeb) may make up a missed Salaat.

The Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) has prohibited offering Salaat during a sermon:

Translation:  There is no Salaat and no talk when the Imam starts for the pulpit (with the intention of giving the sermon). (Bada'i us Sana'i, Vol. 1, Pg No. 595).

Thus, the person who has been offering Sunnah before the Imam stands should shorten the Salaat and finish it quickly.  As given in Fatawa A'alamgiri, Vol. 1, Pg No. 147 and Durre Mukhtaar, Vol. 1, Pg No. 606.

And Allah Most High knows best.
