f:789 - Wife offering Salaat with husband as Imam
Country : India, Name : Muhammad Abdus Salaam
Question: Can wife offer Salaat with the husband as the Imam
.....................................................................................................................................
Answer:
The husband and the wife can offer Salaat as a congregation. In such a case, the husband will lead (be the Imam) and the wife will follow. The wife should stand behind the husband in such a way that her legs should be placed behind the legs of her husband. If the wife stands alongside the husband, then her following is not correct and the Salaat of both the husband and the wife is invalidated (Fasid). As given in Radd Ul Muhtar Vol. I Kitab Us Salaat, Pg. No. 423:
Translation: When the wife stands alongside the husband while offering Salaat in her house in the lead of her husband, then the Salaat of both of them is not valid and if the wife’s feet are placed behind the husband, then both their Salaat is valid. Even if the wife is taller than the husband and while prostrating her head goes farther than the husband’s head, it is not a problem, as the criterion is the placement of the feet.
And Allah Most High knows best.
