f:660 -    Marrying sister-in-law
Country : India,
Name : Abdullah

Question:
A certain person wants to marry his sister-in-law, who is the blood sister of his wife.  He is saying that his wife is also agreeable to this and it is correct.  Does Islam permit this?

.....................................................................................................................................
Answer:
We will gain the benefits and blessings of this world and the hereafter if we follow and act upon the Shariah, which has been given to us through the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam).  If we move away from it, even by the breadth of a hair, then there will be nothing for us but loss.  In the verse of the Holy Quran in which Allah Most High has described the details of the relations with whom Nikah is prohibited, it is also mentioned:

Forbidden are also wives of your real sons who are of your loins and having (in marriage) two sisters together,  Surah Nisa (4:23)

The Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) said:

Translation:  The person who believes in Almighty Allah and the Day of Judgment should never cast his seed (semen) into 2 blood sisters.  (Umdatur Ri'yah Fi Halli Sharh Wiqayah, Vol. 2, Pg. No. 12).

Marrying the blood sister of a lady with whom one is already married is impermissible and forbidden in light of the Holy Quran and the Hadith.  It is not at all permissible for a believer to displease the Lord Almighty in order to please the creation.  May Allah forbid this, but if this marriage does take place, then the whole life will be spent in adultery, which will have its ill-effects in this world and the next.

And Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala) knows best.
