f:16 -    Forgetting Dua-e-Qunoot
Country : India,
Name : Muhammad Taj Ali

Question:
This happened to me. In the 3rd rakaat of the Witr prayer, I forgot to recite the Dua e Qunoot. In the last sitting (Qaida), I offered the sajdah sahw (Prostration of forgetfulness). With this, is the Salaat correct?

Answer:
When you forgot Dua-e-Qunoot and performed the Ruku, completed the Salaat in the proper order and performed the Prostration of Forgetfulness (Sajdah Sahw) in the last sitting of the Salaat, then according to the Shariah, your Salaat is valid.

As the rule in the Shariah is if one performs the Ruku without reciting the Dua Qunoot , then as the occasion for reciting the Qunoot has passed, the person should not return to the standing position (Qiyam) for reciting the Qunoot. Instead the Salaat should be continued and Sajdah Sahw should be performed. As given in Durre Mukhtar, Vol.1 Kitab Us Salaat, Pg. No. 495.

And Almighty Allah knows best.
