f:15 -    Offering Salaat before photos of Kaba, etc.
Country : Medak, India,
Name : Muhammad Ismail

Question:
On the visual portrayals of the Ka'abah and the Prophet's (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) mosque and Sanctuary, the pilgrims (Hujjaj) look very small and diminutive, like dots. Can these images be displayed in mosques or houses and can we offer Salaat in

.....................................................................................................................................
Answer:
If the photo/image of any living being is so small that when it is kept on the ground, a person who is standing cannot distinguish the image's body parts, then irrespective of whether the image is placed in front of the worshiper, at either sides or above, Salaat can be offered.

If in the visual representation of the Ka'aba or Prophet's Mosque and Sanctuary, according to the conditions mentioned above, are so small that the body parts cannot be distinguished, or as you have said the worshipers appear like dots, then displaying such an image in the mosques or houses is permissible, and offering Salaat with these photos/images in the front or at either sides is permissible without any undesirability. But if the photo/image is such that the body parts are easily distinguished, then displaying such images in mosques or houses is not permissible. Whether the image is in front of, above or at either side of the worshiper while offering Salaat, then such a Salaat is undesirable to the extent of being impermissible. (Makruh Tahrimi).  As given in Durre Mukhtaar, Vol. 1, Pg. No. 479
