f:1254 -    What to do if one recites Surah Naas in the first Rakaat
Country : Kota, Rajasthan,
Name : Muhammad Abdullah

Question:
Mufti sahab, I benefit a lot from your answers.  I am the Imam of a mosque.  Once in the 1st Raka’at of Salaat Ul Maghrib, I recited Surah Naas.  I was confused as to what to recite in the second Raka’at.  Then I thought that this is the last Surah of the Holy Quran and recited the first few verses of Surah Baqarah.  Was this correct?

Answer:
If anyone recites Surah Naas in the 1st Raka’at of an Obligatory (Fardh) Salaat and the occasion is not of completing the recitation of the Holy Quran, then that person should recite the same Surah in the second Raka’at as well.  This is because reciting the same Surah in the 2nd Raka’at has less undesirability than reciting the Holy Quran against its proper order.

Thus, if you recite Surah Naas in the first Raka’at of the Obligatory Salaat of Salaat Ul Maghrib or any other Salaat, then you should recite Surah Naas in the next Raka’at as well.

As given in Radd Ul Muhtaar, Kitaab Us Salaat.

And Allah Most High knows best.
