f:1182 -    Using scented tissues in Ihraam
Country : Hyderabad, India,
Name : Muhammad Junaid Qadri

Question:
Usually in the airplanes, scented tissue papers are given along with food.  If someone uses a scented tissue paper i.e. wipes hands and face with it when in Ihraam, what would be the Shariah ruling?

.....................................................................................................................................
Answer:
While in Ihraam, if fragrance rubs off on any one part of the body or on various parts of the body in such a way that if gathered it is equal to one large part of the body, then 1 Dam (sacrifice of a goat) becomes Compulsory.  If it is less than it, then Sadqa Fitr becomes Compulsory as mentioned in Fatawa A’alamgiri, Vol. 1, Pg. No. 241).

Thus, scented tissue papers shouldn’t be used when in Ihraam.  If scented tissues are used over a whole part of the body, then sacrifice of 1 goat will become Compulsory.  If less than that, Sadqa Fitr will become Compulsory.

And Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala) knows best.
