Women getting their hair cut like men

Question:

Some women who love the modern culture are getting their hair cut like men. Is there any allowance in Islam for this? Please give the Shariah ruling about this.

Answer:
It is permissible for women to beautify themselves within the guidelines given by the Shariah. However, women have been strictly prohibited from becoming similar to men. There is a Hadith in Sahih Bukhari, Vol. 2, Pg No: 478: Translation: It has been narrated on the authority of Hadhrat Abdullah bin Abbas (May Allah be well pleased with them), he says: The Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) has cursed the men who try to become similar to women and on women who try to become similar to men. Thus, women getting their hair cut in such a way that they becomes similar to men is Makruh (undesirable) and severely disliked in the Shariah. The women who do this are liable to be cursed and are sinners. As given in Radd ul Muhtaar, Vol. 5, Pg No: 261.
